Changing outlets in Brier

A TaskRabbit client in Brier, WA asked for help replacing 3 outlets.

He told me that he was trying to sell his house and did an inspection, and was advised to replace the kitchen outlets with GFCI outlets for safety.

I advised him that we could probably just change two of the outlets since the third was under the sink in a difficult location to access, but if the wiring is OK we could still protect all three outlets with ground fault circuit interruption using the first outlet in the circuit.

When I turned off the power and inspected the outlets, my hypothesis was correct except the primary outlet was missing a ground wire:

I was able to rectify the issue by connecting the ground to the metal conduit and junction box. After that I tested the outlets and I was able to properly protect all three outlets with the ground fault safety measures. I went ahead and replaced another outlet above the counter just because it looked old and worn out:

The project took an hour and 45 minutes and cost the customer $85 not including supplies and TaskRabbit fees.
