Money, position, and power

Today I watched Gladiator. Some profound learning points from that movie were that we should not lust for money, position, and power. The central dilemma was that corrupt leadership in Rome coveted the position of emperor and pursued that ambition at the expense of the people of Rome. Yet a former army commander set another precedent by sacrificing his position, honor, wealth, even his family, and eventually becoming a slave for the sake of the Roman people. Eventually this slave became a gladiator who won the hearts of the people and brought order to Rome.

While this is not so historically accurate, the lessons of the movie are impressive.
